About us
The Liceo Los Alpes evolved from Kindergarten Tia Nora (Aunt Nora), a well known institution that was a pioneer in the City of Cali which paid special attention to educational developmental beginning in infancy. Educational institution with a unique forsight and experience founded in 1982 by Nora Saavedra de Rubio utilizing her Educational Psychology degree. The school offers formal education for Elementary, Middle and High School students of both genders following the Colombian curriculum calendar B.
Provides matriculating students with the title of ‘”Academic Bachelor specialist in two languages: English and French”. (Under the common European frame in levels B1 and B2).
We intergrate the educational experience where personal example and the values of love and belonging are prioritized creating a comfortable, pleasant learning enviroment.
We forge students with academic solidity and creativity so they can best respond to the myriad of issues in life.
The Liceo works towards to change and shape the history of the children who have been with us during all these years.
The staff
Nora Saavedra de Rubio, founder, who has been always concerned about the prevalence of values and academic excellence in her educational institution. The Principal, Constanza de Fernandez, who is in charge of watching over the welfare and fulfillment of the institution objectives.
Two coordinators Vicky Lopez (Elementary School Coordinator), Ximena Rubio (High and Middle School Coordinator). Bibiana Rubio, (psychologist, therapist and staff advisor) who supervise and direct the function and performance of teachers, along with the subject specialists, who constantly look after the best performance of plans and institutional projects.
An excellent staff of teachers who are highly qualified selected for their humanitarian qualities, commitment to teaching, willingness to continuing to improve their teaching skills, responsibility in their duties as well as respect and love for each student. Their cheerful spirit, enthusiasm and team spirit are a key component in fostering a favorable teacing and work environment.
The Department of Psychology constantly addresses the pedagogical and emotional processes of students, teachers and parents. The department takes the lead with a specialized staff focusing on values, democracy and the unique concerns of youth.
A phonoaudiologist who evaluates the development of language and learning of each child who reports to the child’s progress to teachers and his parents. An administrative staff that leads and organizes plans as well as evaluates and guides the administrative function and the management of the institution.
Parents support the institution’s staff and help in the execution of projects and their children who are the pillar of the institution.
General services personnel, who perform their duties in a commited and responsible fashion.

Formation of leaders concerned with the needs of communities, forgers of peace in the social development, economical and political of the country. Leaders who apply research and new technologies of information and communication, with excellent skills in foreign languages English and French, interaction and intervention in different cultural contexts.

What are we looking for?
Forming students in different dimensions of the human being (physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual), so they can develop their internal resources which allow them to assume and face the challenges of society issues in a healthy and creative way.
Promoting daily the “spirit of diligence” in our students so that daily challenges are met with perseverance.
Stimulating among students a spirit of research, analysis and creativity to best allow them to relate to new technological and scientific trends.
Offering support and vocational guidance at psychological and phonoaudilogical level to students, parents and teachers.
Promoting the sporting spirit that allows students to discover, develop and complement their skills.

Sponsor and stimulate student competence in analytic reasoning, mathematical logic and spoken and written communication allowing them to expound solutions, questions and make the best decisions to particular problems.

Promoting an environment to favor coexistence, respect for diversity, active participation and leadership; with complete orientation in finding one’s identity and stewardship to the institution and society.
Grant the students the title of ”Academic Bachelor with specialty in languages English and French”.
Study supporting plans:
The Liceo los Alpes has a study support plan, parallel to the Basic study plan, established by: French as a foreign language which is empathized as a basic skill. There are also sports which increase their practice such as: Soccer, Olympic gymnastics, Tennis and Basketball, activities sponsored by the support parents. Among all these activities at Elementary, Middle and High School we also have: needlework, artistic drawing, dances, drama, chorus, band and musical groups. The study plan is fed by diverse institutional projects with transverse meaning.
Project getting ready to receive the sacrament of the sacred Eucharist: The children of third, fourth and fifth grade take part in this event. Its purpose is to prepare the children of the Liceo to do their first communion through the study of the Word of God, the truths of the Catholic faith and the celebration of mystery of Christ. Also to see that children receive the sacraments of reconciliation.
Project of Sexual Education: Project focus to promote a permanent process of collective and accumulating knowledge, attitude, behavior and personal values committed in the sexual experience as a fundamental dimension of human beings (MEN). This project is boarded in a transverse way taking into account the main axles: Recognition, reciprocity, tolerance, health and prevention.
Project Going deeply into a subject: It is made deeper in areas such as the scientific, economical and humanistic ways. This is made at the moment the students chooses three subjects according to the career that he decides to study. Offering him an excellent preparation to present the ICFES test.
Project UN Model: Promotes an international panorama. Students accede to a pedagogical version about the performance of the United Nations job; acquiring knowledge on global issues; generating interactions between nations and societies with different priorities and cultures; sponsors tolerance and respect for diversity and intellectual interchange; sensitizes children and youths aboutthe different world problems and develops skills and competences regarding a appropiate actions to be taken. Youths have the chance to diversify by interacting with students from other schools.
Project of youth Leadership: “Leaders are carriers of dreams.” Promotes leadership formation among children and youths; sponsors the development of consciousness and social sensitization; stimulates critical thinking who evaluates the presentation form, the content, the articulation among the different aspects of the project (justification, theoretical frame, hypothesis, development of the work, analysis, conclusions, creativeness and contributions). The participation in this project is a fundamental requirement to obtain the degree as a bachelor in The Liceo los Alpes. Eleventh graders participate in The Project.
Project of Social up bringing, Democracy and Citizen Participation: Is based on article 68 of the Colombian political Constitution of 1991 which promotes the practices of up bringing democracy processes (student’s council, legal entity and school government), coexistence, ethics and human values. This project revitalizes the democratic processes of youth participation via their obligations, rights and necessities of citizens interest (incentivizes the social action of youth in different institutional scenerios) and stimulates the processes of identity and ownership.
Project of citizen coexistence: Rescues the proper elements of national identity; designs a local identity underlining the own characteristics of each region; recovers the civic-mindedness and solidarity; formulates a clear vision of a Colombian identity from cultural and social perspectives; rescues the values of a peaceful coexistence; invites reflection about the social concerns; incentivizes the search for solutions to different problems and stimulates ownership among the educational community, city and country.
Project Environmental Education: Promotes the children and youth commitment to care about environmental issues at school as well as at home. Stimulates the investigation of solutions to issues that affect the environment at school, sponsors the classification of worn out material, generates reflection on the problematic of arbitrary waste of water, air pollution and global warming.
Mandatory social service project: Project that allows the student to develop strategies of intervention towards social and communitarian problems as well as promote self improvement.
Scout Project: The Escultisimo is an educational movement for young people which is practiced in 155 countries and territories with an average of 28 million members around the world in various organizations. This activity seeks the physical, mental and spiritual growth of young people so they can develop a constructive communitarian role in society, with emphasis in practical outdoor activities and the community labor and uses as the patrols system .The term escultismo comes from the English vocabulary scouting and refers to the activities that scouts do.
The Liceo sponsors this project in which students participate voluntarily; the issues of the scout’s law:

- The Scout is respectful and with sense of brotherhood.
- The Scout stands for and values his family.
- The Scout loves life and takes care of nature.

- The Scout is optimist even when there are difficulties.
- The Scout is economical, hard working and respectful of others wealth.
- The Scout is pure and lives a fair life.
Project: “Awaking love for math” Stimulates interest, skills and talents in this area, improves performance, trains teachers and teachers to participate in the math Olympics at an internal level,
Departmental, national and among schools, develops deeping activities in Geometry, Math and statistics; Math is taught as a tool for research and life.
Project field trips: Through different field trips, according to the Grade, to the Amazon region, The Nevados park (coffee belt zone), Bogotá and its surroundings among others. Promotes tourism, sensitizes him about our cultural and natural richness, stimulates social and academic competency, develops direct observation of natural phenomenon and social forms of relations (costumes, rituals, life styles) and forms a sense of national identity.
Graduation project: Research lead by students which is advised by expert tutors and external advisors in various research topics. A process in which scientific, analytical, conceptual, methodology and technical competences are worked and evaluated. The project also generates results which often has a positive impact in the social and academic environments. The handed document must have Icontec specifications and be formally present
Project of Alpes former students: Sponsors and maintains relationship with the former students of the school and generates spaces where the former students contribute to the academic improvement and to the integration of the different members of the community.
School environment
The good institutional climate maintained at the Liceo allows each individual who takes part to perform their tasks in a calm and organized fashion with autonomy. Frequently, by its Directing board, there is a permanent advising and revision so each one of the activities and axels of the Liceo are perform in the best way.
